Ultimate Spider-Man #66
Publisher: Marvel
Comics
Writer: Brian
Michael Bendis
Pencils: Mark
Bagley
Inks: Scott
Hanna
You open the cover of the book and immediately are greeted with something
that sets the tone of the story. Obviously the next two issues are
going to be an indulgence on Bendis’ part. It’s kind of
a nice break after the past couple of issues. This issue guest stars
Wolverine (I know what Marvel comic doesn’t), Ultimate Wolverine
that is. Somehow our heroes have switched places, not physically,
but mentally. It’s the old mind switch routine. Peter’s
mind has somehow found it’s way into Logan’s body while
Logan’s mind has entered Peter’s. Of course there are
some humorous moments because of it. It is a bit lighter fare, but
still entertaining as the two of them have to work together to figure
out both what is going on and how to keep Peter from getting kicked
out of school. This is an entertaining read, it kind of reminds me
of Assistant Editor’s Month from many years ago. -KEVIN-

Uncanny X-Men #450
Publisher: Marvel
Comics
Writter: Chris
Claremont
Pencils: Alan
Davis
Inks: Mark
Farmer
Combine a character that had her origin’s in the X-Men cartoon
series and then found her way into the title NYX (that I used to think
was good, but when it takes forever between issues, I lose my enthusiasm
for it- Daredevil:Father anyone) and now she ends up in a “milestone”
issue of the Uncanny X-Men. The last few issues saw this team up against
Viper, while the Hellfire Club seems to be reassembling themselves.
One of the team members, Sage, knows about the Hellfire Club activities,
but has not yet shared the information with her teammates. There are
a couple of cute moments in this book, the beginning with Nightcrawler
back to his swashbuckling, and a second involving Storm and Wolverine’s
trip to Broadway. Cut moments, but not enough to really save this
book. I’m still not a fan of all of the openness of the Mutant
society and the fact that this team is part of a “police”
force (X.S.E.) that walks the line between the mutants and regular
folk. But in their role of the X.S.E., the team finds themselves at
a club on the search for a mutant that may have killed some humans.
When they find her, they also find that she has some thing in common
with the more feral member of their team. While I do like the art,
Davis and Farmer are always a joy, I still have a hard time following
everything. This could be because I have been away for so long, but
I don’t know, perhaps someone could explain it to me. I’ll
probably still be on board as long as Davis and Farmer are, but as
for understanding things, I think I’ll just look at the pretty
pictures. -KEVIN-
