"THE STORE WITH ISSUES"
Everything kind of had its start in the summer of 1989.....

We began as a part-time sports card and memorabilia business, working various trade shows like the Sun-Times and other Sports News Production shows, while doing mail order through Tuff Stuff and Sports Collector’s Digest with the rest of our “part-time”. We found ourselves supplying many of the area shops with inventory on either a wholesale or consignment basis. Soon we found ourselves expanding our offerings to comic books and related items. After 5 or so years of the mail order business, it was time to establish a brick and mortar presence and move into doing this full time.

May 1994 found us opening our first store (a whopping 600 square feet) in McHenry, Illinois (If you want to see what one of the first days were like check out Geeksville #1 by Rich Koslowski and Gary Sassman - Mike Bianco did the art chores on the first “True Tales from the Comics Shop” that was written by Al. The first location was at 3815 W. Main Street in McHenry where it stayed for 6 years. During that time, it became evident that we were quickly outgrowing our space as you can see.

So we made the big move (next-door) to 3819 W. Main Street. This allowed us to more than triple our display space while allowing for more expansion and the ability to hold bigger and better in-store events. With the growth in space, our product lines grew as well to include Sport Cards, Memorabilia, Comics, Graphic Novels, Hard Cover Volumes, Action Figures, CCG’s, Collector Supplies, and Price Guides. We have grown from selling a few cards through those weekend shows and mail order to now selling over 1,000 comic books a week (between our club members and people who come into the store), Action Figures (either by the case or individually), Collectible Statues and Busts, and Gaming and Collectors Supplies. This now brings us to our next step in our growth process: the creation of the web site that you are now viewing. Now the store mainly focuses on comic books and related materials. We can special order items for people.
We aren't currently purchasing collections of any type.

Initially, we will be using this site to convey information regarding past and future store events, game tournament schedules, product reviews, and also host a message board to exchange ideas about the many facets of the industries we cover. We will also post interviews with some of the celebrities that have appeared in our store. In the past 10 years, we have had the likes of
Rich Koslowski (Artist/Writer or 3 Geeks),
Mike Bianco (Artist- Tales From the Comic Shop),
Jerry “The King” Lawler (Memphis Wrestling Legend, WWE, Actor - The Man in the Moon, Artist),
George “The Animal” Steele (WWE, Actor - Ed Wood, Teacher),
Chicagoland Television Legend Rich Koz (Son of Svengoolie)
Andy Lee (Artist - Ultimate Marvel Team Up).

All of our in-store appearances have also benefited local charities. Between these appearances and other donations made through or by the store, we have been able to help organizations like local youth athletic teams, bands, schools, churches, food pantries, Home of the Sparrow, and the US Marines Toys for Tots program.

We look forward to our continued growth and hope to make you part of it.
